Just to mention, I've been mapping my car for 95ron as a second map, primary map is 99ron.

Impossible to run the same boost, can't be done.

4psi less boost, need to pull 3 degrees of timing at peak torque to keep it from knocking.

Moral of the story, don't be tempted to put 95ron in your imported mapped car, it'll die.

ECUs on Jap turbo imports are normally mapped for their domestic market fuel i.e. 100RON.
Best to leave well alone and stick UK 99RON in the tank. The only reason I can see to d**k around with trying to map for 95RON is the difference in fuel price. It's cheaper to use 99RON than risk det. Too much of that and you'll be looking at an engine rebuild.

It costs me about £4 more for a tankful of 99RON. Less than a couple of beers. The risk/reward ratio is obvious.

And you'll get more miles per tank on 99 RON fuel - in my experience, it nearly offsets the increased cost.

However, it doesn't solve my supply problem - SUL is only available 2 weeks in 4 here. frown

The reason i'm doing a 95ron map at present, I have a dash switch to swap between maps so i'm going to use it. At the last trackday I went too I had to do 100 miles at lunchtime to find either tesco 99ron or V-power that the car was only mapped for. Royal PITA if i'd have had a second 95ron map; flick of switch and no worries.

I'd echo the above for my GTO TT. Luckily I have a Tesco with 99 ron petrol only 5 miles away. On the few occasions I've needed fuel and only the 95 stuff was available I've driven very gently. I've logged the car and the amount of knock if I use much boost on the 95 grade is worrying.

Surely much less hassle? One bottle per tankful of SUL = 98.9RON

What happens if you add it to V-power or Tesco 99?

Thinking about the Ring next year...

It will add 1.9RON when mixed with 50L of fuel.

I use it at the ring with no det problems.
Alternatively, V-power is available in Cochem or (I think) Bahrweiler

I've tried a few octane boosters mainly with a view to giving me a little more option as my car is mapped with V power and any other fuel including Tesco 99 gives higher knock readings most of them made little if any difference

If i add Lucas octane booster to V power i get minimal knock even when really pushing the engine so for track days etc i always use it , worth keeping a bottle in the boost if you do need to fill up with normal super unleaded as well

Emissions and they are probably worried about fouling plugs, oxy sensors and a stock ecu chucking a wobbly...Wouldnt worry about it myself, they are just covering their arse!

Probably to make it sound better than it is , its badged for the US market so there may be some emissions issues as well but its the "racing" image they want, but its legal for road use over here i'm sure
