Alfa GTV TS sump plug diameter?
Discussion
Anyone know the thread pitch and diameter of a TS sump plug?
Did an oil change on my "new" TS yesterday and discovered half the thread was missing in the sump - not just worn away but a big chunk of casting missing Wouldn't be so bad except the previous owner had a re-con engine dropped in only 4000 miles ago
Got someone who can helicoil it for me but obviously need to know what size it is.

Don't know if they're the same but the 156 1.8 TS (at least a 1999 one!) was M18 x 1.5mm I had to helicoil the one on my wife's car after it stripped. Really crappy design. Only thing I would say is that they are supposed to have a big gap machined out of them (a sort of internal slot) to let the dregs of the oil out when changing. It's a good idea to replace the sump plug copper washer with a "Dowty" washer too.
No go on the new sump chaps. Got to the scrappies this morning and got them to undo the sump plug to find exactly the same problem Bloody idiot assured me he had checked it too. So back to thinking about how we fix it. Thinking of a temporary Locktite or plumbers tape fix at the moment.
Problem is the Chimaera tax ends this month and I was going to SORN it. Looks like Judas may have to keep using it for the commute until we get the GTV fixed.
BTW what is a 'Dowty' washer?

They use them on hydraulic fittings. Any hydraulics shop, plant or farm machinery repair shop should have loads of them. They're just copper washers with a "rubber" (probably Viton) ring round the inside so that when you tighten them, the rubber does the sealing and the copper prevents the rubber getting completely squashed. Probably cost about 10p - maybe 50p if it's a real rip-off place!
I was lucky enough to be able to borrow a helicoil kit from a local engineering firm, but it would be quite an expensive purchase for something you only ever needed once. It might be worthwhile taking the sump round to a local engineering firm out of the Yellow Pages and asking themif they can do the job for you - I'd take a wild guess at between £20 and £50.
