The modified wheel bearings worked well at Donnington and no problems were encountered when the wheel temperature's increased etc.... Just to update you all I had problems with the amount of play in my new wheel bearings so to reduce the play I removed the centre parts of the bearing and ground (using a surface grinder) 1.5 - 2 thou or 0.035 - 0.05mm off the centre faces allowing them to clamp up closer together and hence tighter on the balls... This also enabled me to only torque the rear wheels upto the origional setting of 160-180lb/ft with out having excessive play in the wheel, The front is only 140lb/ft... There is still a small amount of play but this is due to the amount I ground off, I have too replace the other rear one after Donnington so will experiment by taking a bit more off to see what happen's, although I need to leave some play to allow for heat expansion! If anyone is interested I could look at providing this as a bearing replacement service, I think I would have to fit the bearings as required to suit the upright and hub wear, rather than just suppling ready ground bearings? Let me know if you are interested?
