Speedos and paint for '92 Griff

Firstly, the speedo on my 92 Griff has been mildly erratic for some time, but has recently gone totally bananas. At the same time the odometer has stopped working. The sensor connector has been cleaned, but without any change. The bible is not too clear on this fault combination... any ideas? How much is a speedo and or sensor?

Secondly, does anyone know the Toyota paint code for Starfire Mica Blue? Halfords will mix the paint, but don't list TVR and can't find the underbonnet paint code in their Toyota listings. Can anyone help, please?

#1 - if speedo is buggered, pre-500 units aren't available new according to classic car mag - changing to the later speedo(abd probably all the other guages to match?) is the only option apart from second hand? You could try a speedo re-con service to get the existing one rebuilt tho'?

#2 - mica blue was used on the Mk 1 MR2 'cos I nearly bought one in that colour - Toyota dealer may be able to help? or locate a used car and get at the chassis plate for info?? Good luck!

If you call the factory and give them the chassis number, they should be able to give you the code for the original paint colour.

If the speedo and odometer have died then the chances are that is that the sensor is faulty. Page 251 under typical Speedo faults.

K666 GRF - are you Wilts based - think I saw you on the A4 a few weeks ago near Avebury? Or was it J666 GRF? Anyway wicked number plate!

Do you know your paint code from your TVR chassis plate? If so give it me and I will give you the Toyota paint code.

Thanks for the help. I shall get the car over a pit tomorrow and start the detective work. SH- I've re-read that section in conjunction with the Haynes 3500 manual and they are contradictory... one fact that I ommitted was that the speedo reads 20 mph with ignition "off". I hope to get a scope from work this weekend and will start from scratch using the bible as the guide.
Is there a set gap between the speedo gear wheel and probe, or is ir a "just" clearance?

Bodyman-- The code is P422 PA14B on the underbonnet "body" plate. Thanks in anticipation.

Finally, no, I am S. Somerset based, and have yet to venture onto the A4, although in the few weeks that I have had my "dream", I have done over 1K miles, all at weekends and eves! The bikes have not had a look-in!

If the speedo reads 20 mph with the ignition off, then it is faulty. Best advice is to get it reconned. Speedy Cables can do it.

I tried this one on my mica blue griff, when I decided to spray both my wing mirrors.

Made a nice job to, but when I put them back onto the car guess what, the wrong colour more purple than blue, so ended up taking then to my local TVR dealer to get then spayed the right colour.

After talking to the guy doing the spraying at TVR apparently the are several different shades of mica blue, and guess what TVR have chosen the most unlightly one, so it maybe worth talking to your local TVR dealer and get then to make the paint up for you, not cheap but a least it will be the right colour.

No BB I don't do chip sticks. I can mix up a small amount of colour for touch up if someone is stuck for a colour. Then you will need a small pot of lacquer too. The best way is give me the colour code and I will try to give the manufacturer of that colour. You can then go to halfords or a main dealer and order it.

Remember all, this is only for touch up. If you wanted a spot on match you will need to find the right shade and producer of your colour i.e. ICI/RM . If your paint code starts with an P its ICI, if its got an R at the start its RM. This makes a big difference to the shade of colour.
