Raising the seat
Discussion
Hi all,
For those of you not in the know, I'm taking on Tiggsy's Chim. Also for those of you who don't know, he's a bit of a tall lad so he has lowered the drivers seat by removing the washers.
I'm not so tall so I need to put some washers back in. Anyone know what size I need to get hold of and a good place to get them from, e.g. B&Q, Hellfords etc. etc.
Also, any advice on how to go about putting the washers back on, i.e. where do they go. I know that I've got to unbolt the seat from underneath the car, but do the washers then sit between the seat rails and the floor? Or do they go elsewhere?
Thanks,
Rob

Good luck with the car Chimhunter ... I went and looked at it with the wife and we both thought it was a cracker. Certainly seemed well looked after and the best private car we've seen to date.
Would have had it ourselves however we didn't check that we could get immediate access to the cash at the time. DOH!

LOL - Yup ... I got Mark to take her for a spin to see what she thought (I never drove it myself) and apparently coming off a set of lights (IIRC) they had what Mark referred to as a "cold tyre moment" and appologised to Jo when they got back for it.
Thing is on the way back home that was all she could talk about and she loved it!!!

They go directly under the seat rails i.e. between the seat rails and the floor. The ones I've seen used a short metal sleeve (basically a short, fat tube) rather than a stack of washers. I'm not sure if a stack of penny washers would tend to slide sideways and twist the seat mounts out of the floor. You seen how weak those seat mounts are?

The rear mounts on mine have pushed through the floor, presumably as a result of having my immense bulk sliding into the seat. Was it you that said someone (Peninsula?) makes a set of reinforcements? I asked in Offord last weekend but they hadn't heard of them.
Any idea where to get hold of a set? Dealer? Or somewhere that's not going to charge loads for 4 metal tubes?

I got mine from Tower View. Don't know how much they charge these days, but when I got them the price was very reasonable.
I had alloy blocks on 1 side and drilled poly blocks on the other. Went to my local plastics dealer and cut / drilled poly blocks 1x2" by height required, drilled, rebated (so bolt could be locked with a nut). My runners also were too close to the seat base, so I spaced these with washers at the same time, cleaned rust off seat base - hammerited, soaped & fed base leather, reupholstered, recarpeted, glassed floor, welded outriggers, oils seal on diff, UJ on prop shaft, drilled hole in sump (easier than waxoyl)..... Joking honest.
Poly blocks are good, no rust, solid - so no dust or coins inside, cheap easy to work, recommended.
