... someone tell me what possesses someone to take a key (or other sharp object to hand) and intentionally damage someone's car.... unfortunately the Exige isn't quite as pristine as it was the same time last week frown

I'm not going to rant because to be honest I know it'll achieve nothing and won't make me feel better.

I could claim insurance on it, but to be honest can't be arsed.... I'll get it looking all nice again and next month it'll happen again.... no point in owning anything nice in this society where nobody has any sense of personal responsibility or respect.

Gutted...........Where did you leave it? People suck so you have to be careful where you park it.

Never leave nice cars in a shopping car park, outside motel uncovered, visiting friends where it has to be out on the street or at work in a shared carpark. All helps, is it worth doing all this just for a nice car? ....YES....

Pretty sure it happened down the Gym. Don't often take it down there, but I like to take it out every week or so to keep it in good working order... the gym's a pretty safe bet because it overlooks the carpark and it's in full view of everyone at the gym.... where it's scratched though, it could have easily been done by someone just walking past, inconspicuously. I suspect a kid as there were a few about playing football who were gone when I left.

If only they'd scratched across the front, I'd claim insurance and wipe out half of my stonechips in the same swoop, but no, of course they have to target an otherwise pristine part of the car.

After hours with the scratch remover I've managed to blend most of it back in, but it's still visible in three spots where the scratching was deepest. I'll just leave it and next time it happens (because let's face it, it probably will) I'll get it repainted then.

See that's why I never go to the gym paperbagSounded funnier in my head

I many ways it's better that you didn't see it happen as then you'd have the joy of expaining to the police how the scrote tripped on the concrete . . . seven times, and then need to take time off work to attend a restorative justice family conference. The official methodology for adding insult to injury. rolleyes

Exactly... if I'd seen it happen, I'd have personally gone outside and wrapped a barbell around his neck.

Grrrr, nothing worse than this kind of senseless vandalism. No doubt they will amount to nothing in life - serves them right.

To cheer you up here's a photo of me digging my Elise out at a Hotel we were staying out on a trip to Ring. Idle minds and all that... smile My own fault for going to bed at three in the morning instead of four.

BAHAHAHAHA thanks Ian, that photo really cheered me up... in the end, I guess if it bothers me that much I can get it repaired on insurance (zero excess for the win!) but still, the senselessness of it all is galling... I mean if your car gets broken into and something gets nicked, there's a kinda reason to it... this sorta stuff is just destructive and nothing more.

As you said, they'll get theirs. I'd like to believe in karma smile

We have a Mazda 2, bought to replace a car my wife has driven for 20 years, & to fit my mothers wheel chair, without too much trouble.

It is an adequate, absolutely, anonymous, nothing car in a common colour, in an area where there are quite a few of them, & we are not well known.

When it was 8 months old, & moderately dirty, so even more anonymous, at the supermarket, someone ran a sharp object right down one side.

Surely, no one could be jealous of a dirty Mazda 2, could they?
It was even a very wet day, so no kids playing in the area.

This type of thing just doesn't happen in singaopre, where they would get 10 strokes of the cane for such behavior. Perhaps, if we brought corporal punishment back, we would see much less of this rubbish.

Now, I'm likely to piss you all off and probably get called a complete wr, but I think you bring this on yourself to an extent , George. (OUTRAGE!!! ) When something unfortunate happens, it's "of course" and it's more evidence to sustain your reactionary worldview. Yes I'm one of those annoying tw*ts who thinks that there's something in The Secret, that we get, to an extent, what we expect from the world. I find that this forum is often a moanfest-Pistoffheads as I've (frightfully wittily) said before.
And yes, I'd be angry if this happened to me , too . Lovely weather we're having (whistles nonchalently)

So, to summarise, it's his own fault for having a nice car which he worked hard for, and he should expect some cvnt to damage it.

In much the same way as you will doubless blame your daughter or sister for putting on a short skirt when they get ar5e-raped on the way home by ten blokes.

rolleyes

To be honest, after a post like yours, I hope someone torches your house and your Seven mate. You'll have brought it on yourself......

All due respect Roger, I think that's bovine faecal matter. Now I know you're into the power of positive thinking and all that, but people who know me in person know that I'm a generally happy and positive person. Fair enough, I do have a few Victor Meldrew moments on here, but this is a good place to vent sometimes.

The only reason this happened was because the car's an object of desire, it stands out in the crowd, and in NZ we do FCUK ALL to teach our kids that other peoples' property must be respected. End of!.

Hell, if it's karma getting back to me, it must have got the wrong ing address because I sure as hell do my bit to help others and generally be a good bloke..... although since that's not working out so well for me, maybe I should just be a to everyone and see if that makes any difference.

You'll recall that I was rather instrumental in the highly public witch-hunt for the tw@s who vandalised an anonymous Elise in London in August last year, which led to the perpetrators being apprehended by the law. If anyone in here should have good karma in the automotive vandalism department, it's me.

Of course on the other hand I could just not drive my car anywhere, ever and live in fear of people just being what people are..... careless, irresponsible, jealous w@nkers.

George, this was deliberately incendiary, and not very sensitively timed. and I appreciate your restraint (particularly compared with Mr Volcano, above) I'm not saying you DESERVED what happened-funny how we tend to get all Calvinist- but I do think that there's something in this stuff about expectations. You're absolutely right that this is about jealousy and anger-someone sees you having "made it" and wants to drag you down to their level. I've done stupid, spiteful things too-not vandalism, but road -rage stuff I'm not too proud of. The lesson I'm trying to learn is that when I expect a certain behaviour from people I'm more likely to get it. Now, obviously this is amidst a whole raft of other influences-but this is one we can control.I just think you're selling yourself short when you do your "let's face it/expect the worst" stuff. Please don't think that I'm implying that this is about karma either (although I was born in the 60s)I just think it's a communication thing. If we expect better of people, maybe we can get it. And yeah, you're right; this is a place to rant harmlessly. Thanks again for being able to seperate the message from the messenger.

No worries Roger, and my attitude stems from knowing your viewpoint which, although I disagree with, I fully support your right to have and vocalise it.

Strange thing is though, that on the whole, people react very pisitively to the Exige, it's not ostentatious like a Porsche or a Ferrari and while I'm very protective of it, having seen so many people react positively to it when they've seen it out and about I was beginning to think that perhaps my caution was perhaps a little misplaced. I wasn't expecting anything like this to happen, and it's only that I'm going over the car with a fine-toothed comb for the Ellerslie Concours that I spotted it. It definitely wasn't there last Saturday when I last went over the car, so it seems that perhaps I was right to be cautious and perhaps I'll maintain some healthy caution in the future.

We ain't so different Rog, I believe in the power of positive thinking too, and while I believe it counts for something (positive thinking people project an aura that tends to positively affect those directly around them). I also know that there's plenty of positive thinkers out there that have wave after wave of bad 5hit happen to them, and there are also absolute pessimists that seem to be blessed with divine immunity from having ills inflicted upon them.

I guess in the end, I know that this sort of thing happens randomly and I've had more than my fair share in the past 6-7 years... let's just hope that it's nothing more than the universe allowing me to get my 5hit over and done with so that I can enter my middle-age without a care in the world.

Its the Anarchy symbol or Anarchism - google it for the full meaning, I thought it was appropriate as it represents these scrotes who damaged Georges car.
