I am about to by a k reg prelude with a slight problem and was wandering if anybody could help. Its a starting problem when you turn the key to the second position every thing lights up ok but when you turn it fully the engine starts and runs fine until you release the key then the engine stops the card is a 2.2 v-tech with 4ws. is it likly to be the air flow sensor or a relay. any ideas.

thanks

Does the Engine warning light stay on once the key is turned to the first position?
The prelude ECU remembers error codes and it can be helpfull to find faults.
If its a sensor fault the ECU should tell you which one is broken.

The ignition barrels in these cars can fail, im not sure if this problem will be caused by this or not.

Check all the fuses.

This might also be a variant on the very very common "main relay" fault that preludes (and other hondas) have, this is also an easy fix.

For some more advise post at www.preludeuk.co.uk

Its pretty easy to get spares for these cars on ebay or forums.

Sounds like either an immobiliser problem or a dodgy Ignition switch.

IIRC in 1993ish HUK were using dealer fitted Alarms and immobilisers and, trust me, there were problems due to dodgy fitting and spurious aftermarkey stuff being fitted.

IIRC the units were either Serpi Star or Gemmel.

just checked the engine light comes on at position one then goes out when turned fully but the immobliser light is flashing red and green. not sure the imobliser works is supposed to be disconedted. the car has been stood for a few months and the battery was being jumped from another car.
