Hi,
Has anyone here ever mated a Jag V12 to a Renault or Audi/VW transaxle? I am wanting to make a mid-engined V12 powered car, and I can find no info anywhere on anyone that's done it before.

I have bought myself a good pre-HE V12, and want to build a space frame chassis around it.

Any views?
Regards
Nick

I have started building a 1/5th model chassis (out of wood) and it all kind of fits together quite nicely, the idea being to make something vaguely Zonda'ish biggrin

Ok......in Italy we have a similar replica prototype with a Bmw v12 engine, check the Lavazza GT-X V12

Their website is down at the moment, i wonder if Pagani had something to do with it.....biggrin

the un1 gearbox is not really that strong and the torque will kill it unless you have the derek bell conversion done on it

You may be able get away with the stronger of the Audi boxes, there good for around the 300 bhp mark, Over that then you into Porsche boxes as used in the Ultima and other Mid Engine designs.

Lotus used the UN box in various formats for a while also.

PS One of the SCF XJ13's is being assembled in the UK at the moment...

They all suffer the same problem, which Derek Bell's conversion overcomes.

Thanks for the info re gearboxes, I have bought a UN1 (cheap) so at least I can start the chassis.
Has anyone any views on construction? some sites suggest that the chassis should be TIG welded, some say it should be made from CDS. some chassis mix tube and box where as others like the Ultima just use tube and MIG weld it all.

I have to say that the Ultima chassis is my favorite at the mo to copy, although I also like the paralell design chassis

Can you post pictures on this site?

Hi everyone
Over the past month and a half I have built a mid-engined V12 "car". I am now at the point where amongst other things I need to think about starting it up.
I don't want to use any of the Lucas injection of ignition setup but have opted for twin ford V6 coil packs and a Megasquirt V3 ECU.
My question is, does anyone/has anyone ever stuck bike throttle bodies on a V12? If so which bike would you go for? I know I need 3 of them frown
I have been looking a GSXR 750 which look quite reasonable or the yamaha R1

the full story of the build todate is here.. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=...

I also need to extend the width of the scorpio power steering rack to cope with the 198cm front track, do you think it would be OK to just chop and fill the old rack?

Cheers
Nick

Nick,
not wishing to be rude, but you sound like you may be biting off more than you should. there is a lot of specialists you would need to speak to to do this sucessfully and Safely! Have you considered looking about for a suitable chassis that is ready made with the correct grade welding, correct steel, and suspension geometry. Why not buy a manufacturers chassis and design your own body for it. You would still end up with something that is yours alone.

Um, Thanks Dave, I think...

I could have bought a pre-made chassis but where's the fun in that! I have copied the design and spec of the Ultima GTR and parallel design diablo (but taken the roof off). The strength of the chassis bcame apparent when I lowered the whole thing down with 400kg of engine stuck in the back!

I might add a bit more triangulation around the engine when the exhaust and other bits are in place for extra rigidity.

As I mention in the blog on Ferrari chat, I'm not happy with the front wishbones and will re-do those to reduce the front track. I have copied the spec of the Zonda C12 exactly, but having the front at nearly 2m wide is just too much.

It has taken a great deal of work and research to get to this point, so there is no going back now.

My only real question is and remains, what bike throttle bodies woul be best to use with it, going with megasquirt V3 and twin ford V6 coil packs.

Cheers
Nick
