Hi everyone, think this is the first time I have ventured into Jap land...usually in Classic Mini or TVR.
Yesterday, wifey arrived home with some details of a Subaru Forester she had seen in the local car park with a "for sale" ad on it.
It was a 2002 (52) with loads of spec apparently.
Now when I look at the various "What Car" etc web sites there seems to be a 97 - 2003 model and a 02 - present model. How do I tell them apart and (not knowing whether this a turbo or not) how much should I expect to pay, what is the road tax and how bad is the poor fuel consumption I read about.

Thanks for all advice
Tony H

Later Foresters i think have the letters XT after the engine size on the tailgate denoting Turbo, so a 2ltr Turbo would be 2.0 XT and the 2.5 with XT after it as well. I think that's right. Not sure about earlier ones though 2002 models i think have the word S Turbo denoting what it is, and japanese imports have STB on them denoting the Turbo.

Have a look on PH classifieds under the Subaru marque, there are a few Foresters there that should give you a flavour for what you may pay.

2002 on Forester:

97-02:

New one is a lot more rounded/less boxy, IMO inside is less usable but a nicer place to be.

Mine (a 2.0NA 98) drives OK for an 'SUV' quite car like, but stil agricultural and inside is pretty nasty. Gets abused tho and doesnt mind. Weak point is the clutch.
