Will a K&N kit imprve a '97 1.8 Celica?

Calling all Celica experts!

I am thinking about getting an induction kit for my '97 Celica 1.8 ST. I fitted a K&N
cone filter to my old MGF and it made a big difference. However, I know that these things improve some cars much more than others. I know K&N make a kit for this model, but have any of you ever tried it? Does it make much difference to the throttle response?

Look harder and find an apexi one they're far and away the best.

It doesn't matter what petrol car you have whether Turbo or N/A, if it breathes better it will run better. K&N do some very good induction kits and Air filters and have been in this business for a very long time, and Apexi are very good as well so perosnally i don't think there is a lot in it.

It comes down to personal preference and cost.

A decent performance air filter can flow as much as 50% more air than a std OEM filter. That in istself may lead to 2, 3 or 4 extra horses and it should sharpen up throttle response no end, so IMHO well worth it.

I wouldn't worry too much if it's K&N, Pipercross, Apexi, HKS, whatever.... Stick with a reputable and well known manufacturer and you won't be far off the mark. If you have already had a good experience with a K&N filter, stick with it, if that's what you want.

Clearly shows all the kits give the same power increase (which will be FA on a 1.8 celica) but shows how the Apexi filters the best, which will help your engine last longer!
After seeing this I'm ditching my HKS and ordering an Apexi ASAP!

I see little point in putting a cone filter on an N/A small engined car. They simply do not require the volumes of air that these filters are designed for, and they usually end up just drawing hot air in from the engine bay. If anything an uprated panel filter might get you some more power. I'd avoid K&N filters like the plauge. They are AFM killers.

....and there are plenty of people that will tell you K&N do the job. Horses for courses really.... do some research on the internet, look at all the information and reviews, and ultimaely decide for yourself.... Call some of the recognised tuners and see what they say

Add an extra cold air feed to the box and change the standard paper filter to an oil mesh based on instead. I had a RamAir panel filter replacement (fensports sell them) on mine and was going to add an extra flexi hose feed to give more cold air. Cone filters, can suck in hot air as they're exposed to the engine bay more. Add an aluminium flexi hose to the air box.

Disclaimer - I never actually got around to doing this with mine, other than changing the filter (which defo helped, but then I de-catted and changed the breaks and suspension too which was more noticeable) - but fellow owners have confirmed it works.

To be fair on the MGF it will be a bit more noticeable than the heavy Celica. Also the best induction kits by far are the Apexi ones.
