Hi all,

I was wondering if there are any AM owners out there with small children / babies - and how that affects their usage of their cars.

I'm loving my Vanquish after a number of Ferraris - as an occasional use car, but now have my first "wee bairn" on the way (wahey!) - BUT - am thinking that it may soon become redundant (the car that is!).

Any advice / suggestions appreciated.

I have a 20 month old and another on the way. Replacing the Aston with something that I can take the family in was something I did think about, looked at Quattroport's, M5's RS4's etc but they did not feel special enough for the quality 'no babies in toe' times, and when you have a baby in toe why do you need 400+ hp. Post baby the Aston useage has dropped, but that makes it more special when we do get out in her.

Have a sensible Audi Estate Deisel for family times, but sniffing at a 'not so sensible' 535D Estate, but have been put off my other 5 series drivers who seem to be some of the worst drivers out there.

Two sons, 21 months and 1 month old respectively (and a 91 month old Labrador, who did join us to the south of France in the Aston once). Kept the Virage and bought a nice safe and sensible Volvo. Keep the Vanquish, your children will thank you for it later.

All cars like the obvious alternatives are compromises, go down the comfy, safe, practical and better-car-hifi-than-anything-barring-a-Veyron V70 route wink

If I were lucky enough to own a Vanquish something drastic would have to happen to get rid of it!!

The only issue with any 2 + 2 (i.e. microscopic seats in the back that only a dwarf with no legs could sit in) is that you end up driving on your own all the time. That's fine in itself, but I couldn't get my two kids comfortably in the back (I'm tall) so the Vanquish was relegated to sit alongside my other 2 seaters as a solo toy only.

So it was often a case of: 'I'm going out for a drive dear' (Time passes) 'Nice drive dear?' 'Yes, went up the A3, it was fascinating'.

Having an 80s Vantage Volante is a MAJOR bonus in AM ownership when compared with the modern cars

there is plenty of space to fit 2 adults on the back and so my 16 month son is able to enjoy in his Recaro seat something I could only dream about not even at his age

Actually my son enjoyed his first Aston Martin ride for the Pistonheads event last November when he was 3 weeks old. He loved the V8 sound engine smile

so is being a father limiting the use of my "classic" Aston? Not one bit. Modern Astons is another matter instead.

Morning All - clearly some of the respondants here are simply guessing as to how kids and a DB9 work together as some of the replies are complete tosh.

I have a DB9 together with and tall 11 year old and a big 5 year old. We use the 9 all the time with comfort having done some long journeys with ease. The 11 year is just getting too big for the back but I reckon it'll be a few years until the 5 year old won't fit anymore.

Me at 6'3" + wife and 2 kids in a Vanquish doesn't work, I tried it several times. Babies are actually harder to accommodate as their legs are held out horizontally by baby seats, giving even less room. I guess it depends how tall the driver is.

from a family perspective i find that if you view a 2+2 as a 2+1 you wont be disappointed. No-one with legs could sit behind me in my db9 (or any 2+2 i've found so far) but i use the car with my 8 year old in the front and 5 year old in the back no problem. In my wife's 993 turbo we can use it four up as long as she drives...she's a bit shorter than me so we can get a child in behind. But you do hit a point where they get to big for the back seats, my 8 year old cant go in the back of either comfortably now. Looks like you have a good few years left, but since i'm looking to change my DB9 for a Vanquish S perhaps i shouldnt have said that... :-)

Agree with the 2+1 comment. No-one sits behind me in the Vanquish unless its one of my older kids with their legs crossed and shoes off! Otherwise the little guy can sit comfortably in a baby seat behind the passenger seat no problem. As long as you're not carrying too much other baby kit around with you it shoudlnt be too big a problem. Enjoy!

You only need to worry when they don't fit in the boot anymore.

But on a serious note, I have seen a variation of people fit in the back of a db9. Including myself at 6'4. I admit that was behind someone of about 5'2 ish in the front seat but it worked. So i imagine you will have plenty of time until it becomes uncomfortable for one or all of you. As someone mentioned before, It all depends on how tall you are and the amount of room it leaves behind you.

Is there a difference between the DB9 volante and the coupe in terms of rear-seat space?

No, no difference. Very limited in both.
