Got back from Australia on thursday morning with a load of Holden goodies, including beer holders, towels and other bits. Happy to say I got hold of a Genuine HSV toolkit. Spent all morning at a HSV specialist dealer admiring some crazy coloured VXR8s. Very friendly chap gave me some info about HSV GTO's and a few prices *gulp*. Got a few pictures showing a clubsport, GTS and one of two ever made.. Monaro HRT 427. Very rare indeed...

There's an HRT 427 sitting in the museum thing they have at the Holden HQ, I guess it must be the other one of the pair. Mean looking machines indeed!

FOR AN AUSTRALIAN MADE CAR

The value of Australian built classic cars has risen dramatically with the sale last week of a concept car prototype HRT 427 Holden Special Vehicles Coupe for $920,000!
The buyer, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a North Queensland building industry businessman known to his mates as “Chooka”, who stunned Sydney car dealer Classic Throttle Shop when he had heard the word on the grapevine that it was for sale and arrived for a test drive of the fastest Holden road car ever built in shorts and thongs!
“I’m a Monaro fanatic” he confided. “I’ve got twenty of them, from the first ones in 1968 through to the last one in 2006 – all in pristine, low mileage original condition, complete with matching numbers -- so I had to have the HRT 427 to add to my collection, as cars like this don’t grow on trees. As far as I’m concerned it’s priceless.”
Classic Throttle Shop’s Chris Bowden believed the HRT 427 was a million dollar car because of its top shelf specifications and rarity. “He beat us down a bit, but everyone finished up happy with the price.”
The HRT 427 is indeed a rarity with only two ever completed in 2002 -- the other remains in Holden’s private concept car collection and is not for sale. Built jointly by HSV and Holden to showcase their combined engineering prowess, an initial run of fifty cars was envisaged but the project was cancelled due to cost blowouts -- despite a healthy order bank. The HRT 427 featured carbon fibre fittings, seven litre V8 417 kilowatt engine with six speed transmission, special race brakes and a top speed of 299km/h.

• The previous highest price paid to date for an Australian car is believed to be $688,650 for a Falcon XY GT HO sold at auction in March 2007.
