Noticed in the wifes Golf on Sunday morning (after heavy rain) about an inch of water in the drivers footwell. The car was parked facing downhill on the driveway. Carpet is totally waterlogged but there's no sign of water entry around the door seals or on the seats, almost as if the water as come from underneath or behind the pedals.

Anyone seen this before? I've tried to get it into a local garage but they can't see it for nearly two weeks, meanwhile I'm working away from home so can't do anything about it and I'm concerned the floor is going to go mouldy, so I'm a bit worried about getting it seen to.

Dont know if its the same but i had water in mines 2, took it 2 vw and it was a seal in the door. They said it was a common fault! they take the panal of and seal it with mastic!! 1 hr labour. if u want new seal u have 2 buy just about everything thats in the door so it is a wee bit cheaper. Hope this helps

Similar thing used to happen in our '99 C5 A6, there's a drain under some -plastic under the windscreen, it used to clog up with leaves as our drive had about 6 Firs and 2 Silver Birches around it, the water would overflow and inthroguh some air filter and come in to the passenger footwell saturating the matts. Maybe the same case with your Golf?

On the Mk4 platform there seems to be 2 main causes for letting water into the cabin. The first is the door seals, which has already been mentioned and the second is the seal around the pollen filter. The latter tends to manifest itself with water in the passenger side.

I would check both of these areas

I'd say air pollen filter to. If the tops broken / not on right the water comes straight in.

Same thing happend i rekon to check drain holes also as said above, for example when it rains or water pours down the water by passes and flows through to the ground, over time these get blocked, dirty and full or either bits of leaves or gunk. Try and clear it out as much as you can and test with a watering can and it should come through to the ground, You may see it come into the car if its not clear.

Sunroof drain tubes too. Use strimmer string to poke down and push out debris.
