The loud pipes were getting too much, although I love the noise, I just felt too chavvy and the wife hated it. I put the quiet section on before, and it's got a lovely tone. Not too loud that you wake up the whole street, but not too quiet either. Just right i'd say!!

Since putting the quiet section on, I noticed a burning smell when I'd got out of the car after the first couple of trips out. I must have looked like a sniffer dog trying to locate where it was coming from. It wasn't the engine, but was coming from the passenger underside, towards the rear. I thought it may be the rear rubbers that hold the pipes in place, that were touching the pipes.....though can't be sure. I'm probably gonna get the ro on the ramps again tomorrow and have a look. Has anyone else had this problem? '04 CV8 by the way.....

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what sort of ramps are suitable for this? are they cheap? Hopefully, thanks to Maverick I will be getting a set of louder pipes and might want to get a set if it means I can change them when I feel like it rather than take the 'ro to a garage.

Cost me £20 from the local car supplies shop. They're just the old fashioned red steel ramps that lift the car up a foot or so when you reverse onto them. Trolley jack and axle stands are no good for lifting rear end up because there's nothing to stop the car rolling forward with it being RWD!! Crushed chest was not an option for me!!!

Burning seems to have gone now!! I think it must have been something in the baffles that I put on.....

Great, thanks. Glad your problem seems to have sorted itself too.

And I thought you were a real man from your rugby posting!
Love the loud setting, but my wife thinks the same as yours. Maybe I'm really nothing but a chav! L.o.l.

It's possibly the sealant/lubricant applied to the gaskets of the exhaust (copperslip?? not sure)
I've always found with a new exhaust (or in your case one thats never been used) it takes a few funs for the excess to be burnt off.

Worth keeping an eye out for and if it continues or really concerns you swap back/take to dealer.

I miss the loud pipes now......think I'll swap back to anyway. I was trying to sell the quiet pipes to myself and believe I had done a good thing....

I must be a chav too!!

Good man. You know it makes sense!

England weren't that bad at rugby after all!

yep, well done for putting the loud pipes back on, know what you mean about feeling "chavvy" but the sound is so sweet! this is the first car i have had where i dont have the music on as the sound of the car is better.

again where did you get your ramps? I've tried everywhere locally and the widest they hold is a bloody 185 profile tyre. Even spad chariots these days have 225 profiles...

Well, She's back on LOUD setting again!! The silencers just don't do the V8 justice, and somebody told me that when they heard me drive off from their house the other week (on loud) it sounded gorgeous! biggrin

Can anyone recommend good car insulation sheets? I think this is the way to go to make the wife happy too....

As for the ramps, they are 21cm wide, made by Eclipse, and distributed by Direct Automotive. I got them in a local shop, but I can't remember the shop name, when I drive past, I'll note the name and you can get in touch...

cheers all, I'm off for a spin....biggrin
