I'm not sure what the rest of you think, but as this has been linked from the homepage for the last few days I can't resist saying something any longer... How can someone buy a 4WD Audi and NOT drive it in the wet?

Also I'm sure it's a lovely car, but I wouldn't want to buy a car that's not been used for 6 months! In this spirit that all advertising is good here's a linky and what I'm on about:

It has been garaged from day one and has not been used throughout the winter - this car is far too nice for use on rainy days! Can you tell that I am an Audi enthusiast?

And your point is??

Surely its a good buy for someone else, isnt it? Does it really matter to you if it has not been used for 6 months, i doubt that it would harm a (nearly) brand new car, i would be more concerned on a car that was more that 4 or 5 years old or even older, but even saying that you need to go inspect it first without making blind judgments.

People dont normally buy a quattro to drive just in the rain, perhaps you did, but not everyone is the same.

People can also write whatever they want into an advert, it really is no big deal if you are not buying the article, it only really becomes a big deal if you want to buy it and you have specific reservations about the content of the advert.

Why get so wound up over nothing?

I think in fairness to the advert he/she is trying to say how mint it is, and as the other poster said its not really an issue with a new car. I think that S3 needs taking out and having some serious miles put onto it, that will do it good.

I saw it on the front page and loved the colour, little bit out of my price range right now, but I'm back onto the new generation S3's fairly subtle looks.

I wonder why they haven't used it? It's far too nice to be left sat in a garage doing nothing. Sounds like a great bargain for someone, way out of my price range and I've not long bought an ex demo A3

My point is, if you're going to buy a car that your only going to use in the dry I'd say don't bother with 4WD and get something really special. I'm not so wound up, I just find it strange that someone would buy a car then not use it, especially one that's so good in the wet.

But maybe he is the enthusiast that he says he is and just likes to sit and look at it, some people are like that you know?

Others drive them and take care off them.

Others like to thrash the nuts off of them, then wonder why they break and then dont work.

People and their habits are very different, if you hadnt noticed. Good job too

It doesnt need to be wet to enjoy 4WD hehe

No, but it helps, a lot.

If you were buying a car just to look at wouldn't you get something a little more attractive?

There's another group too - drivers that drive their cars hard and take care of them.

I think cars should be driven, unless they're vintage and very special and even then a little tootle about does no harm.

All my cars have gone out in what ever weather and they all get well looked after. The TVR lived on the drive and went out in all weathers.

But like I said in my previous post, someones going to get a really nice motor there.

No offence to any S3 drivers out their including the OP but its an S3 FFS, not an R8 or any other 70-80k supercar. Its not rare or collectable. He has no doubt looked after it but buying it and then not using it over winter which was hardly a bad one is beyond me. I took my Golf off the road but it is 16 years old and can rust, a modern car will not. It was probably bought on financed and the owner is struggling to make the payments hence why it will be returned to Audi if not sold. (That just my opinion and may not be true) smile
If you are looking at an as new S3 for 7k off list then this could be a bargain.

Yes you can get an S3 for over £30k, you can also get a 1-series for over £30k and a Golf too hehe

My S3 would have cost the chap that ordered it over £27,000 and that was back in 2000.

Exactly.

R32 - with optional extras = I've just tried to build one on VW website and its so slow I have given up. What Car magazine states £26k ish for DSG 5 door so easily over 30 with fancy paint, leather etc..

1 series 123d Coupe M sport £26k! basic price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 series 130i 5 door M sport £26.5k basic price!

yikes That is truely bonkers, especially when you think what else you could get for £30k second hand. Not that I'm knocking the S3, but i didn't actually think anybody would spend the far side of £30k on a 3 door hatch that isn't really that quick when you compare it to what else you could buy
