24k Service – I’m coming unhinged
Discussion
Kerridges have just informed me that my 3R has cracked ball joint mountings which need replacing - and a door repair – fibreglass cracked around the hinge causing the door to drop. c.£450 to fix the door and not by Kerridges by the sound of it.
Despite lurking on this forum for a couple of years now, I haven’t seen any reference to these things being a common problem. Any advice or views from the Nobility please – especially re the door hinge repair?
Thanks
Andrew

My last MOT failed 'cos of excessive play in lower ball joint. £40 from Kerridges and IIRC £60 fitted.
Also my driver door has dropped slightly. Garage told me to be careful opening and letting it swing open which will make it worse. However when it gets too bad they said just bring it in and they'll fix it. I enquired to what work would be done and they told me: remove door and strengthen the body where the hinge is fitted by putting a steel plate behind. Wouldn't cost much (Labour at £40/hr).
Maybe not that uncommon?

The issue is as it sounds, not the ball joint but the mount. I understand this may have been the cause of the odd accident on some other cars (dodgy batch according to the factory (i maybe wrong here)).
It is a bit of machined Ally which shouldn't be that expensive, although I think it takes a bit of work to get it off. If both are coming off then may be worth thinking of geting them machined 1st and have them fitted with shims so the camber can be adjusted properly later.
Never herd of the door thing, but I will check mine now you've said it.
