Just wanted to to say a big "Hi" to you guys and gals in the VW/Audi section. I've recently sold my '03 Boxster 'S' and have just picked up a second hand Golf GTi MkV.

Its a 2006 model in Diamond black, 5-door, leather, DSG, Brand New 18" Monza's smile Bi-Xenons and only 14k miles on the clock with one careful owner.

To say I'm pleased with it is an understatement biggrin

Here's to many happy miles!

Mark.

Sounds nice ! Only thing that's put me off these is the DSG - (allegedly) fine whilst on a blast but jerky on full auto mode whilst chugging around in traffic (which is sadly what I seem to do a lot of !). What are your findings ?

Before I test drove a DSG paddle equipt GTi I was convinced that manual was for me, but I have to say that I was so impressed by the quality of the DSG gearbox that I started searching for one. I find that the gear change is so smooth. i can leave it in 'auto' mode for the town traffic and then use the paddles when on an open road and I want to have some fun. Basically, I'm not regretting switching the Boxster for the Golf......not one little bit smile

Right, I'm off to see how the GTi handles this snow we've had overnight biggrin

Interesting - thanks Mark ! There seem to be mixed reports on the DSG - the evo guys couldn't live with it in full auto mode (too eager to change down = jerky progress) but that was in an R32 so maybe different throttle sensitivity ? I really like the idea of it but it would need to be nice and smooth or it would drive me nuts !

Please keep us posted on progress - ride, handling, mpg etc.

Time for the monthly DSG debate already?!

I drive mine almost exclusively in town and traffic - I don't find it jerky as such, but it does get caught out now and again. I only do about 4k miles per year so maybe I am not the most experienced judge, but I think it generally works pretty well around town. There do seem to be a lot of reports of it not working so well on the R32.
