Looks like a shift issue from the revs, gets away great and then revs drop and bog. Can't really say why he goes right at the Porsche, may have been traffic to the left, may have thought the Porker would have done the decent thing and put it's brakes on instead of rolling back accross the track?? Who knows?.....Ah, Chewy knows...Chewy?

This was the second race of the day and I was mid field at the start. It was a very cold day in November and all the cars in front were running on slicks whilst I had the Kuhmo V70.
This was a one off invitation race day and from the Qualifying and the first race I found the driving of many very aggressive as though a whole championship depended on it.
I therefore decided to sit back and relax and let the field in front sort themselves out as I had nothing to prove.
I have the Getrag gearbox and started in 2nd. Dropped the clutch at about 3000rpm and got away well. Hit the rev limiter at a very modest 5,500rpm and changed to 3rd. I could quite easily have run into the cars in front but backed off the throttle and gave them room as I was unsure how slippy it would be into the first right hander.
(For an example of what happens if you don’t back off the throttle there is my previous post - http://www.pistonheads.tv/clip1187 )
As I entered the second right hander I could already see the Porsche starting to loose it but he was on the far left of the track so I started going to the right. As I started to straighten up I could see the car coming to the right and momentarily tried to go left but couldn’t as there was now another car either side of me who hadn’t even seen the Porsche spinning. I backed off a little and was forced to let a car on the inside go bye before getting right over. I thought I may clear the Porsche but he carried on rolling backwards and hit me as I went past. The impact took off the rear clip and immediately put me into the barriers.

Not a pretty sight at all. Specially when you see the marshalls throwing part of the rear wing and the clip over the barrier like that! Reminded my of my last visit to Cadwell, lost it on top of the mountain, span on the grass and watched the barrier as I rolled parallel to it for 25ft or so backwards. I was lucky and called it a day!

This was my second visit to Silverstone – the first time was when I had the bendy wishbone problem on the very same corner ( http://www.pistonheads.tv/clip919 ) – think Silverstone may be Jinxed for me

I was hoping to do a few of the Britcar races this year and started looking at ‘dry break refuelling’. However I was told by the organisers that they would not accept my entry – the car is too quick. They said I should enter Britsports but that did not appeal to me the same.
I am now therefore taking my time preparing the car with a view to possibly doing a couple of races Aug / Sept time. I will monitor the Britsports and see who competes over the next few races and whether I would have a few competitors at a similar level as I don’t fancy running alone at the back behind the LMP cars. The shorter races of Britsports would simplify my plans as I wouldn’t need to refuel in the 50 minute races. Long term I still want to fit the refuelling as I’d love to do longer endurance races.
My engine is currently out and stripped for inspection and a new cam.
I want to keep the engine in relatively low spec to help reliability. It was only putting out 311bhp at the wheels but loads of torque. The new cam is to increase torque across the rev range but it will by default give me a few more bhp.
