At a time when lots of people are having problems with their computers shutting down regularly, i have the opposite trouble.

It will go through the exiting screens until it says "Windows is shutting down" and then it stops. Its running XP (a recent change when the hard drive went). There are/have been no error messages.

Can anyone help??

Big Al.

Sounds as though you need a shutdown patch, you should be able to download one from the Microsoft web site.
That's what I did for my 98 set up.

Try looking at the System, under My Computer or whatever it is in XP and seeing if there are any conflicting devices...

Other question, has it alsways not wanted to shut down or after you've added a piece of software or hardware recently?

More than likely something is conflicting/not behaving itself...
