Help!

I have a 2000 530i Touring Auto and it won't start. All the car dash and lights work - but turning the key gives nothing - not even at attempt at turning over. I figured it was just the battery and charged it - but it still won't start - the battery charger says the battery is charged. I've now replaced with a new battery and it's the same problem.

Any ideas?
Is there a relevant fuse, or something?

What is that - something to do with the sequencing of the immobiliser codes?

OK - so we've been swapping between the two keys and one of them will always work, but it keeps swapping between the two which is the "active" one. SO We have to always carry both keys.

So how do I fix the problem permanently?
Can I just buy 2 new keys - I guess that might be expensive?

If both keys work for a short time each ie one works for 10 starts and then fails then the other is ok for 10 then fails and they keep doing that then there maybe a fault with one of several things.

1 both keys happen to have an identical fault...this is unlikely..normallly if one fails it fails permenantly.
2 EWS control unit has an internal fault where its either recieving and authority code from the key but not releasing the DME..
3 DME is receiving release from EWS but not releasing...This is very rare

The best thing to do now is to have the fault memory checked for faults in the EWS....There will more than likely be a list of faults with authority of the keys...although this would suggest issues with the keys it is more likely the EWS is forgetting its last random code.
So the key will be giving the right code but the EWS has jumped a few million digits taking it out of range.
