Steve,
What is entailed in the foaming, and what does it do? And what is the "2 bucket method?

Just for you.

Two Bucket method.- in which the first bucket is filled with suds and the second with rinse water. The idea behind this method is to load the mitt with suds, wash one panel of the car and then rinse the mitt thoroughly in the second bucket to release any trapped particles of dirt, before reloading the mitt with suds and moving on to the next panel.
Foam is more fun than anything really but it does help the wash procedure to safely and effectively remove all traces of loose dirt and grime from the bodywork, wheels, arches and shuts etc

the 2 bucket method is very important. pics below to show why. This was after an initial jet wash down on an old bmw 635csi. ideally you'd have grit guards in each bucket. however i dont as i won't let the mitt touch the bottom of the bucket. if it does it get's replaced and then thoroughly wash out. if you have any questions, just ask.

From reading a bit lately I gather you can't put too much shampoo in, yes? The more suds the better?

Martin.

pretty much as it will act as a lube. but you don't need to go over the top. there are products on the market the foam up huge amounts. i use a mix of autobrite super snow foam and meguiers hyper wash. the megs hyper wash can be diluted 400/1!
