Engine re map on standard E46 M3
Discussion
Hi All,
have a standard M3 that I would like to make a little faster and was wondering if it would be worth having the engine re-mapped. Don't really want to go down the route of a sports exhaust as don't want it to be too loud as it used as a family car also. Where would be the best place to get this done and what kind of increases can you expect.

Hello matey , ive just had mine remapped but had an intake fitted at the same time and the difference for me is very noticable. it pulls so much cleaner and stronger from low down and it is definately quicker. Noise has increased on mine but thats largely down to the intake anyhoo i would definately recommend it
Yes the e46 m3 is better once remapped. but remapped correctly. i have tested a few remaps on my own m3 to log results etc..
i work with a few software developers, who are very good.
the problem with most remaps is that only one or two map tables are altered, when there is more.
my m3 now pulls harder low down and has a much better midrange than before.
also another thing to point at is that when i look at dyno sheets that people post after a remap, the power increase seems to be at the far end of the rev range. IMO this is a perfect example of a poor tune as our engines dont only live at 8000 rpm after all.

Thorney Motorsport are well regarded. They have a Stage 1 (ECU), Stage 2 (ECU + Exhaust), Stage 3 (ECU + Exhaust + Cams) and have just measured a CSL with the latter at over 400bhp.

Thanks for that. Where did you get it re-mapped? Also what type of induction kit did you use?
Mine was done at Sanspeed in kent who i must say were very good and talked me throught everthing and explained etc etc , i have fitted a K+N Gen 2 induction kit which claims 18 bhp gain which of course is ridiculous but i love the noise if im honest regardless of gains or losses. not boy racer at all just makes the rasp slightly deeper and certainly gives a good grin factor !!! A remap will ultimately depend on the quality of the mod file that is supplied. These can vary from tuner to tuner. SOme tuner with very little file writing experience will willingly modify a file and upload it into a car on the other hand there are some very experienced tuners out there, including CA!
If your in the north west contact NMD Automotive, who I know have done a few of these, with great results!
