Can I have some PH wisdom please...

My clutch pedal can be flicked up and down with my fingers and is clearly not engaging/dissengaging the clutch at all. It feels like the piston attached to the cluch pedal has no resistance. I have checked the reservoir under the black glass fibre blister in the wheel arch and the fluid level is fine. I cant see any evidence of fluid being sprayed out everywhere. Does anybody have any ideas what it could be and what I need to do to sort it out? Please tell me its something I can sort out myself, dont want to have a big bill from a dealer. Got to try and get it sorted for Lyyden on the 6th Sept. Any help much appreciated.

Cheers
Alex

Can you get it in gear?, if you can then the slave has seized out, if not then the master is "knackered" . As usual, i might be wrong.

Hopefully it'll just be the slave cylinder seal .... but at worst case could be a whole new clutch.

Yes managed to get it in gear with the engine turned off and then started it in gear (probably didnt do the starter motor alot of good) and drove home in 2nd. Not the greatest experience in the world. Are the cylinders easy to get at if I can work out what is at fault?

Yes and no... the slave is... the master is less easy. They may even be an inspection hole to chcek the release arm which will be a big help. If not and it is something inside the bell housing, it is a drop the gearbox. The bible goes into this in great detail. becareful when removing the slave as it is easy to dislodge the locating clip. Don't want to do that especially if you don't have an inspection hole.

Looked in the service history and the previous owner had the master cylinder done in 98 at 22K miles. Car now done 49K. I dont think that its the return spring since you would be able to pull the clutch pedal back up if you put your foot underneath. Judging by the lack of resistance my money is on a linkage problem if its possible between the clutch and the master cylinder. I have checked the connections in the footwell and all seem well so it must be the other end of the linkage in the wheelarch. Having poked around getting to this is going to be a mere. Dealer here we come...! Still going to carry on trying today though.
