I was driving tother day and mistook the fuel gauge for the minute hand on the clock rolleyes
It certainly does make you drive... a bit more sedately.

Anyone elese tempered their driving style to save a few pennies ?

Not tempted to slow down or short-shift, but will coast a bit more on long downhill sections once I'm up to 160 or so.

Even driving in Europe is as expensive as the UK due to the terrible exchange rate.

Not changing driving style but increasing others ways of moving (feet, bicycle or "normal" car) when making sense.

Absolutely changed my driving style recently - round town it's all about the torque available just over idle, meaning that for the first time my mpg starts with a 3!

A little, but I find it best not to calculate mpg for an M-car. How considerate BMW have always been to remove the mpg gauge to take your mind off it...

Hardly seems worth it really....
18.9mpg if I'm careful - 17.7mpg if I'm not.
That said, I do keep persuading myself that I don't look like a flabby fool, and actually look quite cool on my push bike...

Change of drive style here too. These are some of the changes made.

change from 2nd to 4th and skip third.
coast along in 4th at 30mph or 6th at 40mph.
also train and cycle to work now.

No change over th w.e though.. lol.

I put in 60 litres in Oxford on Sunday evening at a cost of £76 and reset the mpg reading on the computer. I actually managed to keep it at 24 mpg for a while on the M40. Finished the trip back to North London having averaged 18.7 mpg, despite bad traffic. Not bad at all.

Then I reset it yesterday morning for my 7 mile commute to the City and got 7.4 mpg. eek

I just did a 2400 mile round trip to Spain and my average for the whole trip was 28 mpg (E46 Cab). Petrol in France was expensive compared to UK because of the Euro exchange rate but much cheaper in Spain, because of lower taxes I guess. Hard to believe that at this level of average mpg its now cheaper to run the M3 than my wife's 3.0D X3 !!

That really is bad! Even my 911 Turbo doesn't go that low. Doesn't stop me wanting an M-Car, of course...

You can try, Shades, you can try.

But it would be as pointless as manufacturing a battle ready frigate from rancid tomato stock.

Wrt, I don't think the blown 911 is a good example of pump profligacy: the 'live' mpg thing on mine shows a low 20s figure on a 120ish cruise which is mildly outrageous; very light throttle but hugely economical, are them thar jellymoulds.

After a couple of weeks in the new M3 my perspective has changed a little - + 20 equals happiness (and often not seen).

Of course the only reason I can say that with a straight face, is that I'm one of few people in this world who actually wants the price of a barrel to rise.
