I've got a 2004 E46 M3, with the TV/Sat nav thingy (mark 4?). It comes with bluetooth phone prep.

I have an Iphone and I can pair the phone up, but it drops the connection upon making/receiving a call.

I've read somewhere else that the bluetooth software will need updating due to the iphone being so new and advanced.

Has anyone managed to do this as my local independant dealer recons it can't be done (after referring to a mate he has at BMW dealership).

Cheers

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with my M3.
It wasn't an iphone, just a Blackberry, but it was seemingly impossible to resolve - my BMW dealer was rubbish.
I eventually gave up and bought an old Nokia just for the car - it had the extra benefit of having an arm rest charger available - something you'll never get with your iphone.

BMW will probably get around to making their cars compatible with iphones at about the time when they finally get full post code search on their sat-navs - when most have us have retired and taken up flat green bowling.

You need to buy a new ULF - only the 13th generation ones work with the iPhone. Replace it (it's a couple of plugs) and it'll work fine with your iPhone.

At 360 quid I'd rather buy another phone!

I've read somewhere that some people have managed to successfully use their iphone with their older ULF unit.

Has anyone done this on here?

Remember you can sell your old one so it won't cost that much.

It just won't work with older ULF's and there's no way around it.

How much will I get for the old one do you think? How do I know which generation unit I have?

Cheers....making me feel a bit better now!

I got a 13th Gen one from a dealer - cost me £350 iirc and sold my old one on ebay for about £100.

13th gen ones have started to appear on eBay now for less than I paid, but I wasn't prepared to wait.

If you look at the bluetooth module it will have a hardware version number on the sticker.
