You can't tell it is a 4 pot when your driving it though, and if someone is getting 38 in a 520d they would only be getting 28 in one of the six cylinder cars. gizlaroc said:

Have you ever seen a 535D go past a 520, no competition really.
Also sorry to disagree...
"averaged 34mpg in my 535D which is not that far below the 520"
Based on my 43mpg I make that 26% worse economy. Quite far below then.
Also the initial purchase price difference between a 535d and a 520d is around £12,000 so not really in the same decision matrix.

A true representation of some one who does will get 18mpg out of a DMS'd x35d.
