Just in case anyone else is in need of replacing their rear brake calipers.

I've just got a replacement pair from the local Motor Factors (York) for £61.65+drat each. Remanufactured, new pistons, seals, powder coat, etc. Best I got from any Wedge/TVR places was £120+drat each!

They are listed as being for TVR, along with XJ6, XJS and E-type

S'pose I'll have to attach them to the car now......

cheers
Dave

From local motor factors in York, York Motor Factors.

They are part of this group:
www.imtfa.co.uk

Would guess there'll be a local one nearer you who should be able to obtain the same parts at the same price. Check out the map on the site.

More info on the parts:

The company who make/remanufacturer the calipers are AMK Automotive components, part numbers TCA005 and TCA006.

Dave

PS I'll check they fit her this weekend, but they certainly look like the right ones

Hoorah

They fit and they're shiny! They have both been fitted and bled (the air and my hands I don't want to have to remove them again for a long, long time.........

Also refitted my fully stripped, reassembled and greased up handbrake calipers. Adjusted them and from what I can tell the handbrake is functional and possibly quite good. Her arse is still up in the air atm though, so not tested yet.

Which brings me nicely to the next question for one or other of you lovely people out there Where's my handbrake cable originate from so I can go shopping t'moz? I destructively tested the old one as I didn't like the look of it, duly snapped easily

cheers
Dave

Got mine from Wedge. Dunno if its a one off or a doner? Watch out for the clip behind the handle, or rather make sure you don't. I did and wondered why it didn't work for a few mins.

Also lock wired the bolts?

Again I'd agree with Stainless Steve - I think it's from an XJ6 series 2/3 but please don't hold me to it

Thanking you lovely people, I guess I could assume it's the same Jag as the calipers were from, motor factors are going to love me when I go back for that. The calipers puzzled them enough for a bit

What clip behind the handle!? Thanks for warning, shall keep an eye out for it......

I did indeed wire my nuts(OK bolts) together, that was a pain in the ar£e too, or more a pain in the hands and arms

Random piccies of them

Clip under the trim behind the handle that holds the outer still whilst the inner moves (like a bike brake cable).
I wired my bolts with no problems?

Edited to add, just remembered my diff was on the floor so easy to wire the bolts.

PS like the hammer in the first shot, shows resolve

Ahhh, round there, but trim? what trim Must get round to putting some there........still, should make for easy access

Hammers of various shapes and sizes often feature in my vehicle maintenance and accompanying photos, purely to show scale, I wouldn't be beating her outside with such a thing :-)

Sorry, under the trim that is the part on the tunnel. Long bit from the dash to the rear shelf. Under there, about 4 inches to the rear of the brake handle is the clip (might be wrong about the lenght). It clamps the handbrake cable outer. I managed mine without lifting it fully, somthing stopping mine from lifting fully but doable.

The cable goes from the handbrake to this clamp. Thence to the rest etc.

If memory serves me I had to remove the cowl around the stereo, heater controls first then undo the screw in the fag tray and lifted, but carefully.

Are they? Hmmm, look alright from here. They were taken with my new toy, a matchbox sized digital camera I'm slightly puzzled by their apparant laxative effect

I've not seen that smiley of yours before!

ahhhh, I see what you mean know, I wasn't thinking of that sort of toilet purpose, tut tut

They are quite good aren't they, would have preferred silver but not to worry She has quite a few nice new shiny bits, trouble is there'll all underneath, unnoticeable and her inside still looks a bit crap

Just need that handbrake cable now........

+then pour petrol over myself(don't like look of big petrol hose from bottom of tank to pump), find some new relays(one now buzzes ), make new washer pump work, align headlights, make sidelight/indicators work again and possibly some other things......

PS Where are your smileys coming from?!

Changed the rear calipers and discs on my 400 a few months ago, and would agree that its not a job you would want to do twice ! The hardest part is trying to get the calipers out past the chassis tubes. It doesn't matter which way you turn the bl**dy things they won't come out. I ended up half removing the discs at the same time to allow access.
