If they are split then replace them, you always get some 'perishing' but if the cracks are running all the way accross or down the mount it's worth getting them changed. It shouldn't be an expensive job .. 3 hours is probably generous but OK. The mounts have a shim on the top ... don't leave it out or your exhausts will foul on the chassis rail.
Did one of these not too long ago. The main problem is restricted access to get at the nuts, also jacking the engine high enough to pull the old mounts out, then fiddling them through a very small gap in the chassis frame. I wouldn't have fancied trying to do it without an inspection pit. Took me about 2 hours and a lot of swearing.
The good news is that it made a huge difference to drivability. In terms of improvement per £ spent, probably the most successful maintenance job I have ever done on any car.
Engine mounts were quite expensive (around £80 the pair IIRC). Are they a custom made TVR part, or 'borrowed' from something more mundane? They look just like Triumph Spitfire mounts, only much bigger.

Eighty quid? I seem to remember someone from an earlier thread mentioning £100 but I was quoted £16 from a dealer (for one or two, I'm not sure). Do they come in separate parts ie if you buy the whole lot instead of a rubber insert you pay the price? Unfortunately I'm away from home just now & can't just pop out to look but all the mountings I've had in the past have rubber/metal bonded.
