Hi all,

new monaro owner here, loving it so far too! been looking at shifters, the majority seem to be opting for ripshifts which i have tried, has anyone tried a B&M? They are quite a bit cheaper and i wondered if they are as bad as many people think? - well thats the vibe i got from reading the gto forums.

I have a B&M and I'm very happy with it £299 inc fitting and VAT from RapidGB. Doesn't rattle either, just as quiet as standard.

I opted for the Billet shifter in the end. Fully adjustable throw and stops, and keeps the original design so the movement of the shift lever is in a level plane unlike the RIP and B&M. Well made and solid as a rock. Was fairly pricey though in comparison.

What put me off the B&M was the lack of adjustable stops.

Most on here appear to have the ripshifter and love it.

Gear knob on mine used to rattle. It _still_ rattles with the ripshifter fitted. Wouldn't have expected any different.

yep ripper doesnt cause rattles, st oem fixing of gear nob to shift arm does also not aware of any issues with level planes as the rip also keeps the stock shift arm.

so does the knob have to come off the shift arm when fitting a new shifter - cos my standard knob doesn't rattle.
or alternatively
Would MF have taken my knob off to take the box out the car and if so would putting it back result in a rattle?
PS
All jokes about knob pulling please keep to the jokes thread please........

I believe for the standard shifters they just take the knob and shaft off, replace the shifter mechanism and re-use the old shaft/knob.

I have to say my knob doesnt rattle at all other than when the ambient temp is cold etc and its always been like that, once inside of car = warm it goes. The same happens now so I guess if your knob is fine now it always will be but if it does ever rattle you can pull it off and rub some cream into the base then push it back to stop the buzzing

My WP Billet Shifter on the VXR8 only rattles when I hold the gear lever and accelerate around 2000 rpm in a high gear. If I let go the lever, it stops rattling.

What i meant regarding moving in a flat plane is due to the cranked lever and single pivot on the rip and b&m the lever moves up and down slightly when moving the lever back and forth. The Billet doesn't as it keeps to two ball joint configuration of the stock.
The Billet does transmit a bit more tranny and engine noise as it replaces the stock rubber mounted shift lever with a solid ally one but no rattle issues.

Phil, are the shifts much reduced? What about 2-3 shifts? I know the GMM VE has springs and note that the Billet does not, but leverage looks different.
