IMO the latter as it's what I did - if you want to race look into Graduates or Roadsports. Cars for each are in the £10k to £14k bracket and some will include a trailer as well.

Thanks mate, will do. The academy is quite expensive once you start buying helment, race suit etc...

Buy a cheap Roadsports or Grads car and enter a race. Sooner or later you will want to race against other cars, hillclimbs are OK but nothing like the adrenaline rush of racing. Academy is fine (I did it in 2006) but it's still cheaper to spend £10-12k on a decent secondhand car and join a series. Roadsport A always has a few cars up for sale toward the end of the season and this year there will certainly be a number of people selling as they move up to the new R300 series.
