Considering building a car-port on the side of my house for the Ro which is currently tucked up in a garage. Have plans for the garage but don't know whether I could bear to have the Ro in the elements. Your views gentlemen. And ladies!
Don't do it!
Spend the money on a decent wax, some underseal and the rest on Mods!
That way it will never be sat still getting rusty as you will always want to drive it!
BTW, I've heard that the plastic type car covers are bad for the bodywork as they trap moisture, so car is probably better getting wind dried in the winter than covered - unless you live on the coast.
I'd have thought a decent carport would be fine so long as you use the car a few times a week to stop rust on the disks etc etc. So long as it gets washed and waxed every month I cant see any real issues. Dont use the car covers though, they trap moisture and also move about on in the wind regardless of how well they fit and as such you get patches on the bodywork which are all dull and scratched lightly.... I know from experiance on an old GSI vectra I had!
Depends how sheltered the carport is. I know a few people have bagged covers but if the car is getting little use while under the carport, to further help keep the elements off you could consider a framed cover. A framed cover will leave air space around the car and usually have a couple of mesh vents to keep air circulating.
Here is a vey cheap car port, but it might not fit!!!

Mine lives on the drive (uncovered) while my older Vauxhalls are tucked up in the garages. I do not cover a great mileage and there are occasions when the Monaro may not get used for a couple of weeks, but the car does not appear to suffer any detrimental effects. I do try to blow the cobwebs away at least weekly though.
My car is not one of the leaky ones, and has standard brakes, so they do not rot at the first sign of moisture. I do make a point of removing any bird droppings from the bodywork asap.
