the esp light comes on occasionally, with no common frequencey, on my a3 3.2. why could this be? have tryed pressing the esp button, but no change. this is alttle worrying in wet especially. could this be a warning light highlighting a different problem? or could this just be dirt playing with sensors? any help would be appreciated. cheers

The ESP light is connected to other bits too. Mine used to come on after 10 minutes and stay on due to a lead from the alternator becoming corroded.

If you have a friend with Vag Com get them to scan it, or alternatively take it to your dealer.

Will probably be a quick fix.

I would have this checked sooner rather than later, as you could have a ABS fault.

Have the fault memory checked, it will have logged a fault if the light has "Stayed on" for a period of time, probably steering angle sensor or one of the two accelerometers. Low battery voltage can make it come on, but this usually only happen when starting the car not after you been driving.

Just to be shaw, you dont mean it came on for a second or two while you were having an ESP event. I ask only as you say in the wet, when you most likely to have one.

I just had exactly the same problem with mine, dealer diagnosed a faulty ABS unit and replaced it under warranty. Job done.

Brake pedal switch - common and cheap.

Get it on diagnostics to confirm.

Do a Homer Simpson.... just stick a bit of black tape over the offending light!

Do not listen to this man!!!!wink Had/have this same issue for as long as i can recall now. Took mine to audi who said this same thing. I paid for it to be replaced and esp carried on playing silly games so simply gave up.

could be a whole number of things. sounds like it could be the longitudinal sensor though..

As said it could be any one of many things, I had the same fault and it turned out to be the slip ring on the steering wheel!
