What is the difference between a LS7 Crate Engine ( Klick) with an Price of $13.000 and the Amerspeed Version of the LS7? The List of Amerspeed LS-7 Engines Start with $23.595 for the 565hp Version ( Klick). Why $10.000 more than the LS7 Crate Engine?

btw: Which a complete Factory LS7 Kit, would I need ONLY the engine additional? Or do I need even more parts? What about the exhaust system? Is it part of the Kit? Or part of the Amerspeed Version of the Ultima LS7 Engine?

We've costed all this when the LS7 came on the scene. Especially those of us with SBC wanting to upgrade. The whole conversion was looking like £25K. So in answer to your question, all changes in the engine bay, except the transmission (and even then, if you were going to do the LS7 justice, you might change a few things in there).

It's not as simple as just sticking a crate LS7 in:

Engine 650hp 13102
Exhaust 2526
Engine mounts 190.35
Transaxle mounting kit 232.65
LS7 accel pedal kit 79.9
Dry Sump kit 936.48
Oil cooler kit 467.65
Fuel System 956.45
Engine to transaxle adaptor 569.86
Clutch 581.63
Ring Gear 111.63
Starter Motor 329
Air induction* 650 only 1169.13

Total 21252.73
Shipping and Import (rough) 2751.42

Total 24004.15

That's Ultimas/Amerspeeds kit for a fresh install.

Crikey. If you are handy with the spanners, you could probably source or make some of that yourself. £329 for a starter motor seems expensive, as does 2.5k for the exhaust.

I see... so if I buy the LS-7 Kit from Amerspeed, and all the Ultima factory packages (~£45k), than I have ALL Parts for the build of the Car? Or do I need even more parts to build the complete car, to drive?

oh i see.... based on a 650bhp which accounts for approx £6k more to start with. thought luckys post was based on standard LS7.

A custom built ls7 engine with modified internals producing appx 625 hp, ultima wiring loom, pcm, fly by wire pedal assembly etc is £14k here in the uk if you ask around. That includes all duties and taxes. Then you'll need the factory fitting kit, exhaust headers oh and a car to start withsmile

Ok then £24K. Near enough.

One thing that owning a Ultima teaches though is to estimate high and then you won't be disapointed when the bill comes.

So yeah, about £25K for a powerful LS7 Conversion (well, you wouldn't wanna go back in power for that kind a money).

Nope, that's it. All the parts from Factory and the engine from A/S. Job done.

I would challenge the £45K though if you've already done £24K on the engine bay??? I'd say at least £50K. probably £55K

Anyone specing at the moment care to chip with the cost, with a AP, airconed, 650 LS7 factory spec??

A Powermaster starter is £85. Base engine is £6500 stateside, probably 545hp with a decent manifold. I'm sure a decent job could be done for a lot less than £25k but that is up to the individual.

Fairpoint Ramthorne,

But I like many, have little time for development, and therefore would always opt to use the Factory's development time and gear, where they offer a solution.

Where they don't (trick wheels, modern interior, billet pedals [cough]) I take a different path.

Hats off to those that do their own thing, for either financial reasons or personal preference.

Perhaps the original poster can tell us where he would feel more comfortable?

Sorry, my fault. I mein £45k ONLY for the Kit, but it wasn't £45k, it was 45k €, so ~£36k for the kit, ~ 25k $ for the engine, overall ~£50k - £55k, i think

Based on my experience with the LS2, an LS7 car should be in the 50-55K mark.
Tha factory list is easy to work out.
apart from that the 2 variables are engine and trans.

You should look at the LS3 - its a great engine.

are there any circuit figures of a few power variables for comparison anywhere?
I wouldnt want to waste money on power that couldnt be used effectively.

Or at least make a judgement if spending £15k more gets you just half a sec round oulton and gives you more smoke from a start

Think i would rather go LS3 480bhp and spend some extra money on a stonking box and other little bits to get 110% out of the power thats there already.

but then if its a dyno shoot out i was into...thats a different thing...

I'll shortly be able to show how a 497bhp (flywheel estimate) engine fairs against a 550bhp (est flywheel), in the same car round the same track. If it is only 0.5 secs. I'll be a bit peaved!!

Lucky,

I think another visit to the rolling road may be the answer. Also pleased to hear that the engine is going strong after the oil change.
