Just had my M12 2.5 a week and I've discovered that the carpets are getting wet, both near side and offside. It's not coolant and doesn't appear to be screen wash. Could it be from the Air con ?
I can't find any trace of damp above the level of the carpet and it's only in the front most part of the footwell on both sides.
There's not a great deal of water, though enough to wet the carpets.

Any ideas of where to look next would be grately appreciated.

Cheers, Richard.

Mate, check the rivets in the floor pan.

I bought mine just over two years ago and found water in the same places. When i checked the floor pan there were some rivets missing. I cleaned the surfaces up, whacked some sealant in between the floor and the chassis and then re riveted. Never had a problem since.

Hope this helps

A common cause is where the front section of the undertray starts peeling away from the chassis. You could check this by pouring water down the windscreen. It will make its way down the bulkhead and when it gets to the undertray it will start to seep into the footwells. Easiest way to trace it is to peel the carpet back when pouring the water and get someone to look in the footwell at the same time the water is being poured onto the screen. Repair is usually by way of replacing some of the rivets on the undertray and using sealant between the joint. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Could well be the case, though I don't think that it's been wet yet.
Apart from only a small amount of water on a damp sponge to wipe it over.
I hope to get it up on ramps soon to drop the oil etc. I'll have a better look then.

Could the carpets have been wet when you bought it? If so, the cause is probably those that have already been mentioned. On mine I noticed the floor pans had little gaps between the joins. A liberal blob of sealant along the joins has cured my leaks completely.

If it's not been driven in the wet and has not been left to stand in the rain then it must be some kind of leakage. If it's the aircon dripping then I think that tends to manifest itself in the passenger footwell and not on the driver's side.

I've now sealed the seams from the inside. I hope to get the car up on a ramp on Saturday to do the outer seams. Meanwhile, see my thread on the dipstick ! It broke..
