Just seen a car right up my street but it's still regd as the donor vehicle.

Built early 90's and has plenty of history what would be the chances of getting it reregistered correctly without hitting SVA? What sort of evidence would be required? I think it has MOT's going back to year dot and was the company show car (company now long gone). I suppose there's a good chance it may have been magazine featured as a result.

I'm trying to weigh up whether it's worth the risk!

I think the chances of getting it corrected are very low indeed, but check with your local licensing people first as apparently different offices are likely to give different answers

If you can get insurance on it from a specialist like Flux, has a number plate and it had been getting MOT'd regularly, surely it does not matter what it says on the log book does it? Maybe try to get a quote and explain. It was quite legal to have donor ID before SVA wasnt it?

The DVLA seem to have settled down a bit on this one. As far as I'm aware, if you can go to them now with at least (?)2 MOT certificates from before 1998, ON WHICH THE CAR IS CORRECTLY DESCRIBED, they will take this as proof.

So if it's (say) a "Hawk Stratos" on it's MOT certificate, rather than an Alfa 164, and the certificate pre-dates SVA, I think it's worth a shot. Obviously any other supporting evidence (original receipts etc) might help a bit too but I think the MOT cert is the "golden ticket".

Even if it's described as "kit car" or "kit Stratos" or something that clearly isn't the donor, you MIGHT get away with it. The stakes are high though, because if they disagree, you're stuck with the car and an SVA and a Q plate!

No, but it was fairly common practice.
