Having come from an E60 M5 I'm used to the occasional large service bill and different dealers quoting different prices for the same work - usually saved myself £50 to £100 per service by shopping around the local main dealers...

However my 2003 RS6 Avant is shortly due it's 60k service so I phoned an Audi dealer to get a quote: £924.42 incl. eek

Once I picked myself off the floor, I decided with prices at that level I needed to phone around so I politely declined their offer to book the car in! (by polite, what I actually mean is I said something like "you're having a fking laugh!")

Prices for the exact same service including VAT from 6 local'ish dealers came out as:

  • £924.42
  • £823.01
  • £761.65
  • £699.60
  • £629.45
  • £578.30 (a difference of £346 from the first quote!!)
I know it's been said before, but if you are main dealer servicing an extra 30 minutes phoning around could save you a fortune!

Reduce it further by supplying your own Longlife oil. 4 litres of Mobil1 at Costco for £24.

Or.. go to MRC in Banbury. www.mrctuning.com

I travel from Bristol to have my S4 serviced there - 180 mile round trip. Still saves money and couldn't be better service.

Same with most makes. My wifes Disco 3 was due it 24 month service last week. Supplying dealer quoted 480. After shopping around I got it down to 330 Inc Brake fluid and Vat. They did try the "it needs new brake pads sir" but then admitted they would last another 1500 miles....

If you're near the Thames Valley try 'Rover Tune' near Pangbourne - all ex Land Rover mechanics and usually about half the price of a main dealer service. And because he uses only genuine parts and follows LR service schedule it doesn't affect the warranty...
