my brother just called and told me that a german tv-show shows the history of the slr. Because the engine was ready before they had the chassis they tested it in a cerbera. But the car looks a bit raped.
Here is a video :

ouch!!

like the new wheel arches and nose air intake

so this is what the cerbera would have looked like if Germany had built it.

Peter I take it all back

When I click on the video, I just get a blank media player window. Anyone know how to download the vid ? (I have memories of there being a pic of the Cerb mule in autocar when it was being tested 18? months ago)

This was mentioned in Autocar a long time ago when the SLR was just an idea.Apparently McLaren used the Cerbera because they had no experience of building a high powered front engined car and they wanted to capture the essence of the TVR for their new project.Think the car is a bit watered down now to meet the taste of current mercedes buyers.

I thought it might be news for you becuase I didn't found any news regarding this.

p7ulg :
I am not sure if it was McLaren who choosed the cerb as a mule, because it was just an engine test and the engine is produced by AMG. However I think Mercedes has got the experience of building a high powered front engine car ( CL,SL and so ). On the other hand they could have used a CL or SL as a mule but I think they wanted a lightweight car so they can figure out how fast it's going to be.

thanks for correcting the link

What a crap video! With the dodgy music overlayed there's absolutely no sensation of speed as you can't hear the engine or exhaust roaring.

They were obviously hiding something, and it's hardly stuff to get excited about. Darn thing was probably only making 40mph!

And, what on earth have they done to the Cerbera

That Cerbera has definately falled out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down !

Hope it does not give 'Blackpool' any idea's !!
