The current model SL does not have rear seats and neither are they an option.

The area you are referring to is merely a space behind the driver/passenger seats in which you could store a soft bag or two and it houses a couple of small lidded storage bins.

If someone were to squeeze into this area I'm sure they could get their neck broken in an accident if the emergency roll-over bar deployed.
It can easily deploy during spririted driving.

...or look at the CLK (proper four seater).

My wife has a CLK 500 cabrio and it's got plenty of room for two in the back.
