Any body had any experince with the odd situation of side lights switching on when you press the brake pedal?? As i was putting the chim to bed last night i depressed the brake and the side lights come and then off when i let go of the brake. The side light indicator comes on in the centre consol and also the ilumination light for the cigarette lighter comes on also. Not the remaing dash board lights thou.... for speedo / tachometer etc.... anyone experinced this?

Thanks...Rob

Never had it on my Chim but it would have to be a short between the two circuits, not much else could cause this. I would start by checking the wiring/bulbholders in the back. I once came across a faulty stop and tail bulb that had shorted inside but a rare fault.

Usual bad earth I would guess. Try running a temp cable from battery negative to light cluster(s) earth & see if problem goes away.

I had this with the Landrover and the indicators.. ie sidelights would flash at the same time.. it was a poor Earth connecton.

Cheers,
Matt.

A shorting bulb is not that rare! I had a similar problem with my old S3. There was a short inside the twin filament stop/tail light bulb.

This meant that everytime you applied the brakes, the headlights, dash lights, side lights all came on?

If you remove one a time the stop/tail light bulbs from each rear light cluster and operate the foot brake (with ignition on) if you have a faulty bulb, the problem will disappear when the bulb is temporarily removed.

Or if your problem is with a short in the bulb holder or wiring to same the problem may still remain so you will have to probe a little deeper.

If it is an earthing problem then none of the lights will be at full brightness, should be easy to check.
