Hi there,

Does anyone know how to switch off the (irritating) AUDIO bleeping sounds of the Parking Distance Control (PDC) sensors, without having to shut off the visual display?

It is almost as annoying as the loud bleeping of the Seat Belt Warning light, when I am rolling into my drive-way at 2 mph.

I quite like the visual dashboard graphics, so would like to keep this up, but the i-drive only seems to allow an all or nothing setting.

It's on a 55 plate 535D.

Many thanks.

Joel.

I would imagine that the 2 things are not mutually exclusive. There will probably be just 1 fuse for the whole PDC thing.
Only thing is to phone the dealer, ask the question then get your specialist to do it.

Why do you want to stop the parking sensors bleeping? Front ones, I assume? I believe they turn off at a certain speed, so park more quickly.

And now for a serious answer.

On the Z4 you can disconnect the sounder under the dash area. It doesn't stop the other functions but does prevent any noises the sounder would make. Follow the noise and see if you can do the same.

Or buy a car WITHOUT PDC next time. Happy to Help!

Mine e39 has a button on the dash to turn them off. So I would have expected the option to turn the sound down / off must exist somewhere within the sub-sub-sub menu on the iDrive system? Have you had a really good look?

With idrive you cannot turn off the audible sound but keep the visual, there is a setting however to do the reverse; turn off the visual.

Ah. I heard that on the police cars, they just ram a srewdriver through the speaker unit. Wouldn't advise that though..

When I originally read your response, in the absence of others, I thought it was an OK answer. However, OP's reaction to that stopped me adding my 0.02p's worth.

DASH BUTTON - switches off both the audio and the visual.
I DRIVE - has same effect as above button.
BMW MANUAL - Info is not posted in the manual.
WHY? - Because it is an annoying bleep.

Will have a go at trying to disconnect the mini sounder manually.

Thanks.

Joel.

The PDC audio is a signal sent via K CAN and cannot be turned off not without loss of visual.

The MASK - Media Audio System Control (radio) or CCC - Car Communication computer (Prof radio) controls the visual and sound.

The sound is then sent to the sterio speakers.

Unlike the Early 5,3,7 series there is no separate gong for PDC.
