Hi guys,

I guess I could probably do with some new suspension at some point in the future given the car is now over 6 years old and I doubt dampers will last for ever.

But what to look for? The car is an E39 530i Sport with standard fit M-Tech suspension. I've noticed GSF do Bilstein dampers for about £77. Nice. But thats all they list, so presumably they are for cars without M-Tech suspension. BMW list the dampers as £158+vat EACH which is, shall we say, a tad on the expensive side.

So what are my other options? Unless its neccesary I'd like to avoid anything I'd need to declare to my insurers as a modification because 'Yes, its a 530i and yes, I'm under 25' causes enough heart attacks let alone 'Yes, its modified' as well!

As a guide how long should my suspension last anyway? It's all original.

Stick with the Bmw ones there are lots of differant options fitted across the range's and normally they have to be identified for the individual car so anything aftermarket will be a compramise.

If you like the way the car handles now, then fit OE parts, anything else would probably spoil the ride with not being perfectly matched to the car, a mate fitted Bilsteins to his Mtec suspension car & hasn't stopped moaning how hard the ride is!!

Is BMW the only source for M-Tech shocks?
