Evening all

I've tried the search on this one, but to no avail.

Does anyone know the rough cost of derestricting an E39 M5? OK, I live in Jersey with a 40mph speed limit (and often down to 15mph green lanes - bah!) so its not overly relevant to be able to break the speed limit by 115mph or 140mph, but it would be nice to know.

Equally, I'm hoping to take the car to the Ring next year and might try to get this done in Germany while I'm there. Sensible? Stupid?

Any help gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Ben

Might be able to help out - I did my own. Do you and your car get over to the mainland Blighty (SE) often?

hmmm - I might be taking the car over to see my mum near Portsmouth in the first quarter of next year...

I'm assuming that its pretty much purely a change to the electronics/CPU rather than anything mechanical?

You can nudge it past the 155mph limiter in 5th, then change into 6th and that should take you that bit further. It certainly did on mine on a few occasions but that was on the speedo (not actual GPRS speed) altho have heard mixed reports on this . Try it and see tho..

If he had a beard I assume said computer tuner had the glasses to give the full on 'Shipman' look?

My understanding is that M cars are limited at 260 kph compared to the usual 250 kph for other cars, which is 162.5 mph compared to 155 mph. This is the speed I have managed in 3 different M5's over the years.

I always fancied having at least one of them de-restricted but to be honest never was able to spend enough time abroad to make it worthwhile, and also nowhere locally that I would have trusted to do it.

That would make sense. This is the most I could get before the limiter cut in the other day.
