Family wagon is soon to be 4 and notice that BMW have changed their warranty options. Seems top cover is at about £750 with many options of varying cover/XS at less. Nothing has gone wrong in last year of extended warranty and I wondered what people think of this cover.

Cheers

can't help thinking that this one is not a topical subject!

My 535d is 3 1/2 and has covered 140k and only non-service work done since 3 yr warranty expired is a £35 re-code. Whilst covered, the only significant warranty work was a new intake manifold at just under 100k

Whhen my 120d passed 3ys I renewed on the top level of cover but with a 100 quid excess.

My reasoning was 100 quid buys you 1 hour of labour at the dealer - so anything simple I fix myself - anything of value I'd pay the excess and get them to fix it - 6 months in I've yet to claim.

Remember though the price includes pan-european breakdown cover as well, which in itself is worth 200 quid.

I chose to renew the warranty after buying a 3 year old AUC 535d and having the following done within a year:

iDrive recode due to continuously crashing iDrive when SatNav DVD was in place
replacement of upper steering column to cure clunk in steering (didn't work)
replacement of upper and lower column to cure clunk in steering (mostly worked)
replacement of DVD drive for nav system (sounded like a woodpecker was left loose inside)
replacement of oil/water heat exchanger (leak)

The driving experience is very good - the ownership experience to date less so. The car has been back to the dealer more times in one year/15K miles than my E46 328i in 9 years/130K miles.

Thanks for feedback. I'm leaning towards no renewal with nothing having gone wrong in last year. Sods law says I'll get bitten in the arse!
