Hi Folks,

I have an e90, and I have been ogling the short shift kit from BMW performance. It looks nice, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience of it? I find the std manual gearchange to be the worst part of the car, and was hoping that this kit might improve it...

anyone care to comment?

Many thanks

Are you talking about the smaller gear-knob, or a proper short-shift kit?

I can only see a gear knob in the catalogue.

A proper short-shift kit will include a different gear linkage - like this http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/bmw_shif...

from what I was shown, it is a proper kit... not just a gear knob... however, the BMW performance catalogue is a bit unfathomable!

You should try it from our end!!!! Nightmare task trying to quote customers!!

It's a full on shortshift kit that reduces lever travel by 25%. Ive driven a 130i with the kit fitted and it got better with use. Having driven a couple of E90 manuals that would be a huge improvement!!!!

If you want a fitted price let me know.

Well I have bought one... it's now adorning the car's front seat as I try to find the time to get it sorted out!

I will post up an opinion on it when fitted and tried just in case there is someone, somewhere who gives a tiny rat's arse biggrin

cheers

I give a tiny rats arse!
I've just got my new motor a few weeks ago, its a BMW 125i coupe (in white) with Performance options as follows: Performance seats, body kit, alloys, side stripes and carbon spoiler etc.
I'm interested in anybody's views or reviews of the following Performance kit: Short shift, exhaust, air intake, strut brace and brakes etc.

Photo's of my car to be uploaded shortly.lick

The exhaust and air intake sound niiiccceeee!!! I've got the wheels and the carbon rear splitter on my 330d sport touring, wanted to fit the sports brakes but they don't appear to fit the diesel cars? Had the brake kit on my previous Cooper s and it made a big difference.
With the current "in colour" being white I'm not so sure about the side stripes as they're grey!! I have a customer who has a white M3 new shape and he had the wheels painted a high gloss black and it looks really nice.

Have a look on www.babybmw.net there's a mine of info on these parts. many of the folk on there have fitted various bits including the exhaust, brakes, intake, LSD etc.

I've managed to get hold of the short shift lever which will be fitted to my 130 shortly smile

Sorry for the thread hijack but I have an ageing 330ci and have been told that the gear linkage is worn. The right hand side gearstick return spring seems to have gone.

Would a short shift kit be appropriate on a 100k+ mile car and provide all the parts I need to restore the linkage? And at what price fitted?

Having fitted the short shift lever at the weekend I can say no it won't. The springs you talk about are in the gearbox itself, not in the linkage that the lever sits in.
