E36 M3 Evo slight engine noise.
Discussion
I've got a couple of strange engine noises coming from my M3 Evo.
It had a knackard vanos so last week Munich Legends fitted a Dr Vanos re-con vanos. once they'd done it they phoned up to say there's a slight knock coming from the top of the engine.
I arrived and they started it up but no sign of the knock, got home and had a look once it was warm and could hear a very faint tap, its almost like three taps and it stops then does it a gain shortly after. Sounds like its coming from the top / back of the engine.
There's also sometimes a noise between 2.5-4.5k rpm which sounds more like a rattle, not sure if these are related or not. I expect the latter could be vanos related, can these be a bit noise whilst running in?
So any ideas? do these have any common issues?
I wonder if something could have got into top of the engine whilst the rocker cover was off.
Munich legends seamed a bit stumped on what it could be but said it could be a gudgen pin come loose but didn't seam very sure and wanted to take the whole engine to bits in order to confirm.

Could it be the valve lifters adjustment? unlike most cars I beleive the M3 has solid lifters that need to be adjust regularly (hydraulic lifters auto adjust!), this is why the service 2 is so expensive.
Could also be worn valvegear of cause but i dont know what comonly goes on these cars... mines pretty rattly up top but I dont think there is anything wrong with it as its always sounded like that.
