At low revs <tickover (steptronic) my 528i squeels like a stuffed pig. It sounds like a dry bearing somewhere in the region of the water pump or alternator. I've not got my stethoscope on it yet but it would be good to know of any weak components. It could also be an idler pulley I suppose...

A soon as the revs are above tickover it quietens down.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

76k... Could be from there. Makes sense to replace it for forty odd quid if I'm replacing the rad anyway from what I hear?

Almost certainly the water pump. Right on the front of the engine. Quite an easy job compared to cambelt run water pumps.

Is that hard to pinpoint exactly? I've been putting a screwdriver everywhere but it's hard to get it low enough to put on the pump without getting sucked into the rad fan yikes

This pesky pig sounds like it's got legs and moves whenever I try to pinpoint it biggrin
