sounds like a perished door seal. iitc they are quite expensive to purchase, but not too difficult to fit.

Look on the bulk head in the engine bay. there is a drain near the middle (above the transmission) sometimes its known as the elephants trunk. they get blocked with moss/leaves and crap. the water then cant drain anway and ends up over flowing into the car via heating system.
Happened to my E30M3. Also as other post could be door seal or the weather proof seal behind the door panel

I will try and find a pic of the bulkhead drain

edited for link

have a look at link below next to part 21, to the left there are 2 holes. ignore first one look at the second one (oval shape on drawing) is were the drain was on my car working from memory here cos I sold my e30 4 years ago

Is the car loosing any coolant? If it is it could be the heater valve and/or the heater matrix.

Plenty of generic trim here. Just measure and buy the length you need. Cheap as chips thumbup

my e30 m3 had a blocked drain below the wipers, this used to cause me to have soaked carpet in the passenger footwell, remove the trim under the wipers and stick a coat hanger down the drain hole until you can push it through into the engine bay

I had this, on a cab, did all the above, the roof didn't leak, (although sun roof can if you have one)

In the end I took all the trim and carpet out, tough on a cab as the bulk head is braced clamping the carpet down, and waited for it to leak. Found the left hand captive mounting nut of the glove box had flexed and cracked the inner wheel arch. So water sprayed off the wheel, into the crack! Soaking the carpet and sound mat. Sealed it up, no more water.
