In what was looking like being a great TVR race weekend, it was left up to TopCats Racing to uphold TVR honour this weekend at Brands. The Insane Racing entry had an incident on Friday, which meant they couldn’t race and CDL’s woes continued, with their T400R was out after less than 10min of qualifying.

The TopCats two seater powered by a 4.2 AJP Cerbera engine, posted provisional pole, before gearbox problems forced the car into the pits with 10 still left in the session. A 4th place grid position was still excellent, especially given the fact the car was still set up for track-days and even had the second seat still fitted !! And for both drivers this was a first time out competitively in the car.

With the track still greasy from the earlier rain, the rolling start of more than 35 cars had all the ingredients of being a first corner pile up. However with all drivers mindful of this the first run at Paddock Hill was without incident. By Graham Hill bend however the Tuscan, driven by Warren Gilbert had managed to grab the lead, Andy Rouse in hot pursuit in his ex DTM Mercedes.

After a few laps the race settle down with the Tuscan comfortably in 2nd place. 50mins of racing saw the pitlane a buzz with activity as most of the field came in to make their driver changes and fuel stop. This saw the Tuscan drop down to 8th, once the fuel stops had evened themselves out and thanks to some hot laps the Tuscan was back up into 4th. As the race had started late, darkness was drawing in and the decision was taken to reduce the race from 100mins to 80mins, this quashed any hopes of the Tuscan gaining further places.

However after 80mins of hard racing (remember that the Tuscan Challenge races are each about 20min long, so think 4 races back to back) the car finished 4th overall and 3rd in class. TVR honour was most definitely upheld.

The car can be hired for Track-days so you can enjoy the Tuscan Challenge Experience – drop me an e-mail via my profile if you want more info !!

Glad to see the driver got out OK on Friday as the fire spread very quickly. Bit of a mess afterwards, lets hope it can be repaired.
