E36 SMG Thoughts?

Just following on from the thread about E46 SMG boxes, what is the concensus of opinion on the E36 SMG box? Up till now, i have not really looked at these as a possibility, seems to be lots of talk about unreliability, plus, i mistakenly thought they were some sort of sophisticated auto box.
Did they do the SMG on the 3.0, or is it exclusive to the EVO's?

I have no experience of them so I cant talk from first hand - that said; Ive not heard a good word said about them

like you say - unreliable, a fortune to fix and a poor 'shift' to boot seem to be popular comments. AFAIK they were exclusive to the EVO.

Likewise I cannot comment from first hand experience, however have never read a positive opinion (likely that I have read very few opinions from people that have driven them though), and have read of people converting their cars to a proper manual when something (inevitably???) goes catastophically bad.
