Ghastly stuff but does the move mean it cannot be legally sold as 'Newcastle' Brown Ale any more?

At least, it was after seven or nine, hastily consumed bottles thereof.
Only matched in it's indescribable awfulness by Vaux's Double Maxim, it's decline/potential demise here inferred, nevertheless represents another nail in Olde Albion's coffin.

Apparently S&N applied to have it's 'regional protection' (or whatever it's called) removed. So 'Newcastle' Brown Ale can be brewed anywhere in the world. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/tyne/83...
didnt they get a EU protection a few years ago that states that newcastle brown can only be brewed in that location.

The geographical limitations can be quite strict. "Newcastle Brown Ale" was restricted to being brewed in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in England. However, having obtained this protection for their product, the brewery decided in 2004 that it would move across the river Tyne to Gateshead. As Gateshead is technically a separate town—albeit only the width of a river apart—it does not fall within the required geographical restriction. The brewery then applied to the European Union authorities to have the geographical restriction revoked. If the restriction had not been revoked, the brewery would have been forced either to move back to Newcastle, or stop calling its beer "Newcastle" brown ale. Ultimately, the brewery's application to revoke the geographic restriction was approved.

ps *we tried to buy Lorrimers Best Scotch when we were students in Edinburgh - nice letter with lots of 'nice place, shame about the beer' references, they said sorry can't do it without licencee, we got a licencee, then said sorry drey lorry delivery at least 4 pallates, we got lots more than that, they said sorry, can't sell outside of teh north east, they lost lots of student up near graduate (can afford al the beer you can sell us)customers. Screw them
